Map Editor

Post  ichbinsehselber on Sun Aug 14, 2016 10:34 am

Hey guys,

I have never made a map so far. But I have read map design recommendations. I also found links to editors on the AWBW site but all of those links seem to be broken. Can someone recommend me which is the best tool to make a map.

1.) Is it possible to export maps made by somebody else to some text format?
2.) Is it possible to edit maps made by somebody else and publish the edited map then?
3.) Can I somehow make a map without starting from zero?

I'm not aware of any way to do #1, #2 I'm pretty sure is impossible, and #3 isn't normally something you can do, but some map editors let you load .txt files or will generate some random terrain to start with.

Unfortunately, every external map editor I know if is currently out of commission, so unless someone else is aware of one that I'm not, you're stuck with the AWBW map editor.

How would someone go about making or fixing a map editor? With a little help getting started, I'd be up for making a new working map editor. I've got some web development and programming experience. Who would I talk to for this?

I think the biggest problem I've seen so far is finding a place to host it.

It might be worth reading through this thread for some background... as you can probably guess, the people to talk to with questions would be Nyvelion and theether since they know a heck of a lot more about this than I do.

I'd be down to host it. And sure I'll talk to them. Thanks for the info.
