Bug and Glitch List

This thread is intended to serve as a table of content for AWBW bugs and glitches. The details about specific bugs should probably be in a thread on its own. At a later step each point may get a link to some thread about details.

The starting point for this list is http://awbw.wikia.com/wiki/Glitches.

Fog of War:

1.) [FOG] When trying to unload from a black boat in fog, sometimes the unit seems to disappear or unload at an unexpected location. (reported by dpsi on 19.08.2017) ( additional info: both infantry ended up 1 sq right and 2 squares above where they should have. Also the infantries were unloaded into areas without much vision. The games were also pretty large, both in number of players (8 and 12) and total land area.)

Miscellaneous:

1.) Maps > 36x36 (1333 tiles) have all units deleted when any new unit is added to the map and the map is saved. - I can't fix this currently, it requires sysadmin privileges. -- Walker

Black Tiles:
Disclaimer: These bugs will not be addressed. You play on maps with black tiles at your own risk!

1.) There are reported issues when very high movement units attempt to cross black tiles (reported)

2.) Units cannot be moved into the top left corner of maps (coordinate 0,0) via black tiles (confirmed)

3.) Movement by APC with loaded unit movement through black tiles gets cancelled due to a page loading error (reported by W1sh)

4.) If a unit bumps into a unit directly when exiting black squares, the unit does not move at all and can still move (again). If the unit tries to go there again, the move still does not work and the unit cannot move again. The unit does not move closer to the black squares, it stays at its starting point. This only applies in Fog of War.

Ghost Units:
If units are placed on a map without their corresponding HQ or Lab, they will disappear at the start of any game on that map (Note: This happens even if a player changes their country/color to match these predeployed units on the map). During the game, the locations in which the units were deployed on the map cannot be used to build or spawn units, including from Hachi/Sensei CO powers. These properties can still repair and supply as they normally would. Ghosted production facilities will display a red x icon when the cursor hovers over them during gameplay to indicate that these properties cannot be used to build units; normal production facilities will display a wrench icon instead. Ghost units no longer cause any other effects, such as preventing unloading or joining of units.

While this may be seen as a glitch, it has been used deliberately by many map makers as an integral part of their map design and, as a result, these ghost unit effects will not be "fixed".

Fixed Bugs:
1.) The boot and aet triggers do not work since the last server migration (fixed by walker 2017-08)

2.) The logic for the matchmaking of the league does not work. (fixed by walker 2017-08)

3.) In the user info setting the AWBW Theme: to Advance Wars 2 can produce some undesirable display effects. It is recommended to select Advance Wars 1! (fixed by walker 2017-09)

4.) attacking multiple times per unit (probably fixed - see xmo5's comment below, but bug was encountered by TDS 2015 or 2016 Tank vs T-copter)

5.) [FOG] Do not use purple lightning country in fog of war games: Using the screenshot button in Fog of War while Purple Lightning is in the game, you see all properties owned by this nation (confirmed) (fixed by walker 2017-09)

6.) Random weather bug: Sometimes the weather gets stuck in snow or rain when playing random weather. Usually an Olaf or Drake SCOP can reset the weather to normal randomness (after the usual SCOP effect) (fixed by walker 2017-09-03)

7.) The CO bar of the defender fills with 9k = 10% instead of 9k is one bar. (thx to xmo5 and phineas)
Update: The issue appears to happen only on Day 1 (thx to Walker).
(fixed by Walker 2017-09)

8.) If your last unit is a black bomb and you explode it, it won't count as a rout (defeat by losing all units)
This glitch could be abused on those maps where your HQ cannot be captured.
(fixed by Walker 2017-09)

9.) Sonja's SCOP has issues, it is believed that a units HP is not factored in during attacks. Sonja will always attack first if her SCOP is active regardless of if her unit will be killed. (fixed by Walker 2017-09)

10.) Flak uses his AWDS portrait when the portrait theme is set to AW1.
Flak and Nell use their AWDS portraits when the map theme is set to Animated.
(reported by phineas, confirmed)
(fixed by Walker 2017-10)

11.) AW2 theme on Pompeii shows an outdated version of the map. Confirmed on the game page. (reported by jobrown5vt) (fixed by Walker 2017-10)

12.) Black bombs are not included in the damage calculator. (fixed by Walker 2017-11).

13.) [FOG] In a multiplayer fog game allied subs can not always be seen. Even when the subs are not seen it is often possible to guess the allied sub positions from the vision they project. And it is also possible to see their positions in the game / match logs. There are similar issues with stealths (thx to Andy_Kuma) (fixed by Walker 2017-12)

14.) The game did not end when the only opponent was routed (and had no units left, even though the properties turned neutral. http://awbw.amarriner.com/replay.php?games_id=256263&ndx=81 (I could end my turn at it would but it wouldn't turn into the next day until two turns passed. I moved on turn 83/84 and both were day 43. So on. Until I finally captured the final base.) (reported by Zero) (fixed by Walker 2017-12).

15.) In some situations it is not shown when an unit is short on ammunition. (confirmed) Reported by Schreck for his artillery in this game on 2017-12-03. (fixed by Walker 2017-12)

16.) Rachel's SCOP missiles should exclude units loaded into transports in the targeting calculation. (fixed by Walker 2017-12)

17.) [FOG] Sometimes you can attack unit on forest without discovering it first. If the player moves next to the forest then builds or unloads he can still fire into the forest. This glitch also works vs stealths (details from benbever). (fixed by Walker 2017-12).

18.) [FOG] If a unit bumps into a capturing inf or mech, the capture points are lost (reported by the deadly shadow)
I think this bug happens when an inf or mech would go to the city square because the game thinks the capturing points must be reset for the new inf. It does not happen with other units since the capturing point number does not matter if no unit is on the city which could capture the city
(fixed by Walker 2018-01).

19.) If a capture is in progress in a multiplayer game on a player's property while that player's HQ is being captured, the property incorrectly resets to 20 instead of staying at the previous value. (reported by blipsANDchitz) (fixed by Walker 2018-01)

20.)[FOG] A screenshot can be used to determine whether an enemy transport has loaded a unit or not (reported by Infernusmachine) (fixed by Walker 2018-01)

21.) [FOG] After a game has ended, the screenshot function still shows the game with fog. (fixed by Walker 2018-01)

22.) [FOG] In FOG you can sometimes move through units. (reported by Zeronix, confirmed by Yau) (fixed by Walker 2018-01)

23.) Jade Sun infantry icon is different in animated vs. AW2 themes. This is the case for basically every custom country. (fixed by Walker & Nuke 2018-02)

24.) [FOG] Sometimes it is possible to unload a unit on another one (reported by Zeronix) (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

25.) [FOG] The check movement does not work properly in fog (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

26.) [FOG] If a unit unexpectedly bumps into another one which was not visible during move planning then the fuel consumption is done as though the unit moved the whole distance minus 1. (reported by TDS) (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

27.) Sometimes the awbw web site becomes unavailable. A manual restart of the web server (by amarriner) is required to fix this. (This should be fixed now)

28.) The power meter updates incorrectly when increasing the funds per star after power usage. Currently the funds per star updates before the bar is lowered, resulting in extra draining of the CO power meter. (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

29.) Repairs for Hachi/Colin/Kanbei should be proportional to their unit cost, but are not currently in AWBW. (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

30.) Broken pipe seams do not currently give offensive buffs for Jake/Lash like they should. (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

31.) Map images don't load properly upon initial publish if the user has animated map theme. Reported by Tamsin. (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

32.) Units on a port or airport do not receive repairs if they are at 10hp but are partially damaged. (confirmed by ichbinsehselber) (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

33.) CO power bar for Hachi/Colin/Kanbei units are not proportional to their unit cost. (confirmed by Walker) (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

34.) Sasha does not get funds from counterattacks while her SCOP is active. (reported by Walker, unconfirmed). (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

35.) On Sasha's SCOP, the funding received is based on the decimal damage dealt (e.g., 290 funds from dealing 5.8 damage to an inf) instead of the displayed damage. In addition, the funding received is not capped at half the unit's value; for example, dealing 10 damage to a 1hp copter would still result in +4500 funds received. (confirmed by Walker) (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

36.) CO power bars should charge based on the displayed damage, but currently charge based on exact damage (confirmed by Visage). (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

37.) In AWBW the snow and rain adds movement cost in forest for tracked and wheeled units (3/4) while in Advance Wars 2 that movement cost is unaffected by rain and snow (2/3). (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

38.) In AWBW Lash is unaffected by snow during her (S)COP even though she is affected by snow in AW2. (Thanks to Linx for the report) (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

39.) Repeated (S)COPs make the cost of co meter charge more expensive by 20% of the previous values in AWBW rather than a constant increase of 1800 per star. This might be subject to change (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

40.) Sasha COP hits both COs on the carts and only the main co for opponents on awbw (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

41.) Tag games have the problem that the secondary CO power meter often changes erratically and unreliably.(confirmed) (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

42.) After tagging your COs, your primary CO might not get any charge in the turns thereafter. Tagging your COs might resolve this bug (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

43.) In some (rare) cases the Power button does not show up even though the primary power meter is clearly above the level required for COP (reported by Technetium) (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

44.) CO power bars for Tag COs do not charge for counterattack damage. (reported by Walker) (Fixed by Walker 2018-06)

Known Differences:

The following differences exist and they do not have to be classified as bugs:

1.) Transports are able to load and unload multiple units per turn, including after moving.

2.) In AWBW, loading eligibility is based on the unit being loaded. For example, if a lander is on a square an infantry can move onto, then you can load it. On the cart, a unit can only be loaded if both the transport and the unit to be loaded can enter the square where the unit shall be loaded onto the transport.

3.) Cruisers in AWBW are a combination of their AW2 and AWDS form. In AW2, cruisers were unable to attack other sea units apart from subs, but in AWDS, cruisers were given a weak attack against other sea units. When AWDS units were added to AWBW (which predates AWDS), the new sea units that were introduced retained their vulnerability to cruisers while the existing AW2 units did not change. As a result, AWBW cruisers cannot attack battleships, landers, or other cruisers, but they can attack both black boats and carriers for low damage or subs for high damage, as usual.

4.) [TAGS] On AWDS COP charge speed only decreased when the specific CO uses a power, not per side. (thanks to Visage for testing this) Potentially fixed with game.php update. This needs to be confirmed.

This second list is for bugs which do not directly affect game play.

1.) MAP EDITOR:
After/during the server migration, tiles greater than 333 wouldn't save any edits. For new maps that means ocean tiles and for uploaded maps it just won't change anything you have.
It was fixed at some point, but replaced with the same bug but for a much higher count... I think it was 1333 (Thx to xmo5)
2.) REPLAY:
Towers are counted towards income in replay

This one used to be an issue with Sonja's SCOP, but to the extent of my knowledge, that was fixed a couple years back by Walker. I can't promise that the issue still doesn't pop up or that it hasn't resurfaced since the server migration. Also, if this is seen in any context outside of Sonja's SCOP, then I don't think it was addressed.

The AW2 theme seems to have trouble displaying maps correctly. AW1 works fine.

capture a property and someone bumps into your unit, then your unit
might 'lose his cap'. Since I don't play FoW games a lot, I did not
knew if it was solved, but resently I ran into that bug again and it
seems unsolved.

I will take a look at the discord server tonight. It has been a while.

FYI, I fixed the bug where CO powers didn't load properly on day 1. This only affected games with predeployed units that could fire on day 1.
